A concept we discussed in class that I found interesting was the comparison between Vogel’s sexuality and that of the characters in her stories. She is a lesbian and we nothing about her past sexual experiences (childhood, teenage life). However there are definite examples of sexual abuse, obviously in the relationship of Uncle Peck and L’il Bit as well as Uncle Peck’s youth. Does anyone have any ideas/theories on Vogel’s fascination with sexual/child abuse?

The only way that Vogel could write about such sensitive issues is if she or someone close to her had those expierences. Lil Bit's repetitive "i dont knows and maybes" made her experience seem real to me as if Vogel was speaking through Lil Bit but just years later. I really think Vogel is telling her story through this play because she wouldn't be able to add that twist of humor as well . I also feel like the flashbacks are the way a women, 40 years later, would remember the events. Vogel must be a "victim" that decided to no longer be a victim.
