Current Cinema..."Outlaws"
The New Yorker film critic, Anthony Lane, commented in the October issue on two new films: "The Kingdom" and "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford". "The Kingdom" circulates the lives of a team of FBI investigators who fly to Saudi Arabia to survey, interview witnesses, and put the "bad guys" away. Although, Lane's review of "The Kingdom" seems interesting, he quickly changes the focus from investigating Saudis to Jennifer Garner's breasts and social limitations she faces in an Islamic world. "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" focuses on the life of Robert Ford and the days before the assassination of Jesse James. Lane, reviewing the Jesse James' film, seems to think a 90-minute documentary on the life of Jesse James, rather than two and a half hours of "slow, shaggy-dog meditation" focusing solely on Jesse James. Based on Anthony Lane's film review, I would rather see "The Kingdom" versus "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford"; even though both films have they own flaws.
