Laughing for a Change

I like to read, but most books I have read in my career have been a disappointment. Vogel’s play relieved me from my usual boredom when reading a book for school and I could finally enjoy a good book that I did not read at home. Both of Paula Vogel’s plays, “How I Learned to Drive” and "The Mineola Twins,” give the reader a break from his normal boring school reading. They have great humor, but it seems that the subject matter would be somewhat inappropriate with what our normal school books are about. I really liked the humor and am in no way complaining because the jokes are things that I have heard before. We are not reading some book with a bunch of Old English that I cannot understand. Her writing really kept me interested and I laughed constantly. What is more intriguing about the plays is that they touch subjects in the U.S. that we really do not talk about in school. However, the fact that Vogel uses humor in a lighthearted tone keeps the whole class involved. The fact that in both of the plays one of the women is a lesbian makes the story more interesting and it allows for some funny jokes in the plays. Also, blowing up abortion clinics and robbing banks is not something that we normally read for school. That is one of the main reasons that I actually enjoyed reading this book.
